ART AND WELL-BEING

There was very little chance of me not being creative. Coming from a family of artists and crafters has meant that I’ve tried all sorts of creative activities over the years.

My Dad, also an artist, has been instrumental in my choice to become a professional artist. He has encouraged and supported me to keep  going every time I have had blips.

The impact that painting has had on my mental health has been life-changing, and fluid art suits my neurodivergence perfectly.

It was whilst watching an interview with a creative lady that I experienced an “aha” moment. The person being interviewed had suffered with mental health issues most of her life, and also like me, was neurodivergent. I realised that I understood her struggles I genuinely felt an empathic connection. Then it hit me, I had found something that had helped my own well-being, a way of expressing my feelings through colour and movement, a way of giving up control without negative consequences, fluid art.

I realised that I want to share what has, and still is helping me, and that’s why Flowing-Free was born.

Inspiring creativity

When it comes to deciding my next painting, I draw inspiration from the world around me. Artists often say that they are inspired by the landscape around them, a fiery sunset, or rolling hills, and that it because these things are so inspirational.

Ideas can also come from a striking fabric design, the work of another artist, and even simple things I see in my daily routine. These surroundings and visual experiences often fuel my imagination.

My mood can be a huge factor when choosing colours and also what technique I will use. It guides the colours, techniques, and canvas size I choose on any given day. My fluid art is a reflection of my evolving creative journey, influenced by both the world around me, and my personal experiences.
